QuickBooks Cleanup & Catch-Up
Catch up on missing periods
Identify the months, statements, transactions, and supporting records needed to bring the books forward.
Correct the accounting file
Review account balances, classifications, duplicate entries, and the items that need owner confirmation.
For owners behind on monthly reconciliations, preparing records for tax filing, changing bookkeepers, or trying to understand inconsistent balances.
A defined cleanup scope
File assessment
Review the accounting file, last completed reconciliation, account list, and known problem periods. Separate missing records from accounting adjustments.
Reconciliation work
Compare the books with bank, credit card, loan, and other supporting statements within the agreed scope.
Transaction review
Address uncategorized and duplicated entries, transfers, and owner activity with an approval trail. Items requiring your input remain clearly identified.
A clean handoff
Deliver updated financial statements, a summary of significant corrections, and unresolved questions for the next bookkeeper or tax preparer.
How We Work Together
Assess
Review a high-level file summary and missing periods.
Quote
Confirm the accounts, periods, assumptions and exclusions.
Reconcile
Work through the records and resolve review items.
Handoff
Explain corrections and agree on the recurring close process.
Prepare for Your First Conversation
Bring the accounting-file access method, the last reconciled month, account and statement lists, prior-year financials or returns, and any known filing deadlines. Share access through an authorized invitation, not a bank password.
Cleanup completion depends on record availability and resolving open questions. Tax filing, payroll correction, and legal disputes are separately scoped.
Common Questions
Can you clean up several years?
The scope depends on the records available, number of accounts, transaction activity, and prior reporting. We review the condition of the file before committing to a schedule.
Is cleanup included in monthly bookkeeping?
Not automatically. Historical cleanup and catch-up work are quoted separately unless the engagement explicitly includes them.
Does cleanup include amended returns?
No. If corrected books may affect a previously filed return, we flag it for a separate tax review and engagement.
